Your spring school holiday survival guide!

Spring school holidays are just around the corner and while we know all the kids want to do is visit us at the dentist, there are a few other options the NB Dental family recommend to keep the kids amused in Brisbane these holidays…..

Brisbane Festival

September school holidays is a great time of year to hang around Brisbane with the kids and check out the annual Brisbane festival. There are heaps of child friendly and focused events being held at South Bank, QPAC, Brisbane City Hall, Old Government House, the Judith Wright Centre and Brisbane Powerhouse from Sept 8th to the 29th. Check out the list of family friendly Brisbane Festival 2018 highlights on the Brisbane kids link. Don’t forget the awesome Sunsuper Riverfire – a spectacle of music and fireworks held along the Southbank on the 30th Sept at 7pm.

Queensland Museum at South Brisbane

Now we are sure we have all visited the awesome the Queensland Museum,South Brisbane at some point, however during the holidays they are offering a very unique experience, allowing families to explore the Museum after dark (Check out the movie “A Night at the Museum!” before you go). Their new exhibitions include Monkeys: A Primate Story, SparkLab Sciencentre, and Wild State! Dance along with live music; see demonstrations, amazing objects, performances, hands-on activities and more.

Victoria Park Golf Complex at Herston

This is a great place to get the kids away from the house and mix a bit of sports, fun and good food all together. Not only can you have family fun on the putt putt course or driving range, but there is also a kids’ timber playground, complete with a climbable tractor and if you visit on the weekends they have jumping castles set up!

Ten pin bowling

This is a family favourite for the NB team! It’s a great game to involve the whole family, it’s not weather dependent (great for rainy or hot days) and the assistance of bumpers and bowling ball ramps means even the little kids can join in! Some centres also offer special Learn to Bowl sessions specifically designed for children and will provide them with the basic skills to play. Just remember the licensed bowling venues (Strike Wintergarden) will not allow children in after 8pm at night.

Escape Rooms

An outing at an Escape Room might suit the teenagers of the family. This is a fast-paced team challenge where a small group of people are locked in a room and have to figure out how to escape within a time limit, usually of one hour. It’s a race against time to find clues, crack codes and solve riddles and puzzles to get out of the room before the clock stops! The challenges and experiences differ in every room and many have interesting themes, from murder mysteries and jail breaks to secret gardens and treasure hunts! A few from NB Dental took the challenge on and thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Cube escape rooms in Everton Park!

Cinemas

And after doing all these activities, you may be feeling a little run of your feet! Perhaps a trip to the Cinemas is in order! Current movies for the kids these September holidays at Christopher Robin, Teen Titans Go to the Movie, Smallfoot, The House with a Clock in Its Walls and Deadly Dinosaurs. With so much competition between cinemas, cheaper tickets are more readily available, leaving a little spare cash for movie munchies(just remember to brush!)!!
